比べて選ぶ・好みを言う
Comparing and Choosing
二つ以上のものをくらべて、どちらがいいか選ぶときの言い方です。「prefer A to B」やmore/less/asのような比べる形(比較級)を使います。くだけた場では「I like this one better」、あらたまった場では「I definitely prefer the first one」のように言い方を選び分けましょう。

日本語話者の落とし穴
「prefer」の後は「to」を使う(thanではない)
比較級で使う「than」につられて「prefer A than B」と言ってしまいがちですが、正しくは「prefer A to B」です。preferだけの特別な形として、セットで覚えましょう。
比較の後に続く代名詞の形に注意
「better than me」のように比較の後に代名詞が来るとき、話し言葉では目的格(me, him, herなど)を使うのが自然です。「better than I」は文法的には正しくても、日常会話ではかたく聞こえます。
