値段・数量をたずねる
Asking About Price and Quantity
買い物や食事で値段や数量をたずねる表現です。市場やカジュアルな店ではHow much is this?のような直接的な言い方(casual/standard)、フォーマルな場ではCould you tell me the price?のような言い方(formal)を使います。数えられる物にはHow many、数えられない物にはHow muchを使う区別も大切です。

値段をたずねる基本の型。単に金額を聞くならHow much is it?、動作としての値段はHow much does it cost?。

How many/much + 名詞 + do you need?
数量をたずねる型。数えられる物にはHow many、数えられない物にはHow muchを使う。

日本語話者の落とし穴
How much と How many を混同しやすい(可算・不可算の区別)
日本語には数えられる・数えられないの区別がないため、How much people?のような誤りが起きやすい。人やチケットのように数えられる物にはHow many、水やお金のように数えられない物にはHow muchを使う。
How much is it cost? は動詞が重複した誤り(動詞の選び方)
isとcostを両方使ってしまう誤りがよく見られる。値段をたずねるにはHow much is it?かHow much does it cost?のどちらかを選び、両方を混ぜない。
