疑問文と否定文(do・does)

まず日本語で考える

日本語は「食べる」の語尾を変えずに「食べる?」「食べない」と言えます。
英語の一般動詞は語尾を変えられないので、疑問文と否定文にはdo/doesという助けの動詞を使います。be動詞にはdo/doesを使いません。

do/doesの使い方

doesを使うときは動詞から-sが取れて原形に戻ります。
例: Does he play? / He doesn't play.

例文

• Do you like coffee? — コーヒーは好きですか
• Yes, I do. — はい、好きです
• Does she play tennis? — 彼女はテニスをしますか
• No, she doesn't. — いいえ、しません
• I don't like spicy food. — 私は辛い食べ物が好きではありません
• He doesn't have a car. — 彼は車を持っていません
• Do they live in Osaka? — 彼らは大阪に住んでいますか
• We don't know the answer. — 私たちはその答えを知りません

よくある間違い

• × Does she plays tennis? → ○ Does she play tennis?(doesを使ったら動詞は原形に戻す)
• × I don't likes spicy food. → ○ I don't like spicy food.(don'tの後ろも動詞は原形)
• × Do he like coffee? → ○ Does he like coffee?(主語がheのときはDoes)

ミニ会話(好みを聞く)

場面: SamとAnnaがカフェにいる。

• Sam : Do you like tea? — 紅茶は好き?
• Anna : No, I don't. I like coffee. — ううん、好きじゃないの。コーヒーが好き
• Sam : Does this cafe have coffee? — このカフェにコーヒーはあるかな
• Anna : Yes, it does. Let's order. — うん、あるよ。注文しよう
