Describe a time when you were very busy.

The period that comes to mind is the three months leading up to a major product launch at my company, about two years ago.
A big client had committed to a fixed release date at exactly the time two colleagues left the team, so the remaining four of us were suddenly doing the work of six. On top of that, I was studying for a certification exam I'd foolishly scheduled months earlier, assuming life would be calm.
What saved me was becoming ruthless about priorities. I wrote down everything competing for my time, cut whatever wouldn't matter in three months — social media went first, then most social events — and time-boxed my days almost to the minute. I also learned to say no, which frankly was the hardest skill of all. Even so, there was a fair amount of burning the midnight oil, and by the final fortnight I was running on empty.
We met the deadline, just barely, and the launch went well. Looking back, my feelings are split: I'm proud we pulled through, and the crisis taught me more about time management than any book. But I also learned where my limit is — and that I never want to live that close to it again.
