The goal I'm proudest of achieving is finishing a full marathon, which I did about three years ago in just under five hours.
I should say upfront that I was never a sporty person — the school marathon was my annual humiliation. That's precisely why I set the goal. I'd just turned thirty, my health check numbers were drifting the wrong way, and I wanted to prove to myself that I could become a different kind of person through sheer consistency.
The key was breaking it down. Running a marathon from scratch is absurd, but running for fifteen minutes three times a week is trivial — so that's where I started, following a beginner's programme. Every month added a little distance. There were setbacks, including a knee scare that cost me six weeks, and plenty of five a.m. alarms in winter when quitting felt very reasonable. Ten months of that, and I was on the start line.
Crossing the finish line was emotional in a way I hadn't expected — I'm not ashamed to say I teared up. But what actually makes me proud isn't the race; it's the ten months. I now know from evidence, not motivational posters, that I can stick to a hard plan. That knowledge has quietly changed how I approach everything difficult.

Why is it important for people to set goals?
モデル回答
Mainly because goals convert vague desire into direction — 'get fit' produces nothing, whereas 'run a marathon in October' produces a training plan by Monday. There's solid psychology behind this: specific, slightly uncomfortable goals measurably outperform 'do your best'. Goals also make progress visible, and visible progress is what sustains motivation through the boring middle stretch of any endeavour. The caveat is that goals can tyrannise — people cling to targets that no longer make sense. So set them firmly, but review them honestly.
